Thomas O'Brien

Thomas O'Brien is a Professor of Finance at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a position he has held since completing 19 years as Dean of the Isenberg School in 2006. He came to the University from Harvard University where he held a variety of positions from 1971 to 1987 including that of Financial Vice President from 1977 to 1987. He received a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University in 1969 and a B.A. in economics from Tufts University in 1960. He served as an officer in the submarine service of the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964. At various times he was a faculty member at Brandeis University, a White House Fellow, Director of Research of the Boston Redevelopment Authority, and Director of the Office of State Planning and Management in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
